o dreamer
poem by Rosa M. Turner © The Christian Science Board of Directors. used by permission. Traditional Irish Melody, arr. Reynolds/Sigurdson

O dreamer, leave thy dreams for joyful waking,
O captive, rise and sing, for thou are free;
The Christ is here, all dreams of error breaking,
Unloosing bonds of all captivity.

He comes to bless thee on his wings of healing;
To banish pain, and wipe all tears away;
He comes anew, to humble hearts revealing
The mounting footsteps of the upward way.

He comes to give thee joy for desolation,
Beauty for ashes of the vanished years;
For every tear to bring full compensation,
To give thee confidence for all thy fears.

He comes to call the dumb to joyful singing;
The deaf to hear; the blinded eyes to see;
The glorious tidings of salvation bringing.
O captive, rise, thy Saviour comes to thee.

mother's evening prayer
poem by Mary Baker Eddy, Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896 © The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy. used by permission. music by Nan Butcher © The Christian Science Board of Directors. used by permission.

O gentle presence, peace and joy and pow'r;
O Life divine, that owns each waiting hour,
Thou Love that guards the nestling's falt'ring flight!
Keep Thou my child on upward wing tonight.

Love is our refuge; only with mine eye
Can I behold the snare, the pit, the fall:
His habitation high is here, and nigh,
His arm encircles me, and mine, and all.

O make me glad for ev'ry scalding tear,
For hope deferred, ingratitude, disdain!
Wait, and love more for ev'ry hate, and fear
No ill, since God is good, and loss is gain.

Beneath the shadow of His mighty wing;
In that sweet secret of the narrow way,
Seeking and finding, with the angels sing:
"Lo, I am with you alway," - watch and pray.

No snare, no fowler, pestilence or pain;
No night drops down upon the troubled breast,
When heaven's aftersmile earth's teardrops gain,
And mother finds her home and heav'nly rest.

whither shall i go from thy spirit
Psalms 139:7-12
music by James MacDermid © 1937 Forster Music Publisher, Inc.

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

mark the perfect man
Isaiah 2:22; 43:7; 45:13, Job 20:8,9, Psalms 37:31,37; 52:7; 89:26
music by James MacDermid © 1946 RD Row Music Co.

Cease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils: for wherein is he to be accounted of? He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: the eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him. Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. For I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him. I have raised him up in righteousness. The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

behold what manner of love
Genesis 1:26,27, I John 3:1,2
music by James MacDermid © 1942 Forster Music Publisher, Inc.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him.

satisfied
poem by Mary Baker Eddy, Poems © The Writings of Mary Baker Eddy. used by permission. music by Allanson G.Y. Brown © The Christian Science Board of Directors. used by permission.

It matters not what be thy lot,
So Love doth guide;
For storm or shine, pure peace is thine,
Whate'er betide.

And of these stones, or tyrants' thrones,
God able is
To raise up seed - in thought and deed -
To faithful His.

Aye, darkling sense, arise, go hence!
Our God is good.
False fears are foes - truth tatters those,
When understood.

Love looseth thee, and lifteth me,
Ayont hate's thrall:
There Life is light, and wisdom might,
And God is All.

The centuries break, the earthbound wake,
God's glorified!
Who doth His will - His likeness still -
Is satisfied.

thou wilt keep him in perfect peace
Isaiah 26:3,4,13,14
music by James MacDermid © 1921 Forster Music Publisher, Inc.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength: other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.

the ransomed of the Lord
Isaiah 35:1,4-6,8-10
music by James MacDermid © 1945 Forster Music Publisher, Inc.

The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. An highway shall be there. And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. Say to them of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: your God will come with a recompence; he will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped...the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. And an highway shall be there, a way, the way of holiness; no lion shall be there.

come, ye blessed
Matthew 25:34-36
music by John Prindle Scott © 1917 G. Schirmer, Inc.

Then shall the King say unto them upon his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was athirst, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

in my father's house are many mansions
John 14:2-4,27
music by James MacDermid © 1927 Forster Music Publisher, Inc.

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

how lovely are thy dwellings
Psalms 84:1-3, 8, 10
music by Samuel Liddle © 1936 Boosey & Hawkes, Inc.

How lovely are thy dwellings, O Lord of hosts! My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found her a house, and the swallow a nest, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God. O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer: I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand.

great peace have they which love thy law
Psalms 119:165,174-176
music by James H. Rogers © 1936 G. Schirmer, Inc.

Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. I have longed for thy salvation, O Lord; and thy law is my delight. Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.

comfort ye
Isaiah 40:1-3
music by George Frideric Handel, Messiah

Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned. The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

how beautiful upon the mountains
Isaiah 52:1-7, Psalms 104:31-33; 146:2
music by F. Flaxington Harker © 1938 G. Schirmer, Inc.

Arise, O Jerusalem, and stand on high, and look about toward the east, and behold thy children gather'd from the west unto the east by the word of the Holy One, rejoicing in the remembrance of God. How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth! The glorious majesty of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in all his works; the earth shall tremble at the look of him: if he do but touch the hills, they shall smoke. I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will praise my God while I have my being.

he that dwelleth in the secret place
Psalms 91:1,5,6,9-12
music by James MacDermid © 1935 Forster Music Publisher, Inc.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor the arrow that flieth by day; nor the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor the destruction that wasteth at noonday. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
